Is AI Worth the Hype?

Is AI Worth the Hype?

In short – NOPE, and here’s why…

If you’re a business owner, you know that there’s a lot of buzz around AI tools right now and how they can help your business. While there no doubt are some serious advantages that AI tools bring to the table, there ARE certain areas that you probably want to avoid using them.

One of those areas would be copywriting. Copywriting is a crucial part of marketing your business and reaching your target audience. It includes website content, email marketing, advertisements, and any other form of writing your business could possibly need. Copywriting is how you establish your brand’s voice, connect with potential customers, persuade them to invest in you and your product, and so much more.

AI-powered writing tools tout “benefits” to the small business owner that are undeniably enticing. Saving time and money are no joke when you run a business. The question is, are you getting the best possible product in return? The answer, according to a popular AI tool (ChatGPT) itself, is simply… no.

When asked whether AI-powered writing tools can replace copywriters, its response was as follows:

“It is unlikely that ChatGPT or any other language model will replace copywriters anytime in the near future. While ChatGPT and other language models are capable of generating responses to questions and comments in a variety of different contexts, they are not yet advanced enough to fully replace the creativity, originality, and unique perspective that a human copywriter brings to their work. Additionally, writing for marketing and advertising purposes often requires a deep understanding of the target audience and a strong ability to persuade, which are skills that are difficult for a language model to replicate.”

Let’s unpack that.

First of all, I don’t blame you if you didn’t get through that entire paragraph. If it’s written by a robot it will read like a robot. Boring. As that robot mentioned above, in order to support your business’s goals, you need “creativity, originality, and unique perspective”. Only a human copywriter is capable of truly understanding your brand’s voice and what your target audience is searching for. They can determine what is going to hit home and write in a creative, persuasive way to achieve whatever it is you are trying to accomplish; followers, likes, sales, etc.

AI is also not always great at understanding exactly what you are trying to convey. It can make assumptions and therefore create misconceptions and confusion for readers. That’s the last thing you want when you’re trying to attract business. Collaborating with a copywriter and being able to communicate exactly what you are trying to accomplish will lead to content that does attract more business.

You also want your business to stand out, right? If you are using the same AI-writing tools as your competitors, your marketing will likely just blend in. A copywriter’s sole purpose is to make your content stand alone and bring you more business.

Google is also not on board with AI-written copy. It “goes against Google’s Webmaster Guidelines,” according to John Mueller, a Google Senior Research Analyst. AI-written content will possibly be considered spam and/or rank lower in search results than content written by humans.

Copywriting is such an important aspect of your business that it’s probably best not to go “cheap and easy” in this aspect.
